This picture on first glance does make a P.I.'s heart skip a beat, but in a rare sober moment with closer scrutiny it becomes clear.
Well the picture ain't real, it has messy digital paw prints all over it. I at first thought it was rather bold of the perp to use the main iTunes graphic, but then it occurred to me. The are no other known pictures of Lala. He had know choice but to risk it, in plain sight. His skills are great. To clean up the colorized version of Lala so cleanly, especially the eyes, he deserves lots of kudos. But the give away was in the poor match of resolution between the grafted photos.
It would just be cheap journalism to let you see the whole picture.

I agree with the Canadian Avenger. The discontinuous regions that you are pointing out are merely as a result of Jpeg compression. The quickest check for this is that they are occurring in blocks of 8x8 pixels which is a classic hallmark of Jpeg compression. The tiling is even occurring exactly where you would expect it, at pixel numbers that are divisible by eight. Check it out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG

If this is a fake then the artist who created it found a near perfect match for the colourised head shot. The hair and bone structure lines up perfectly and I don't think you can say for sure on just a little pixelation. The 'fake' has a resolution of 180dpi and the TikiBar TV iTunes image (http://a1.phobos.apple.com/Features/5b/f5/59/dj.bixccgsh.170x170-99.jpg) has a resolution of 72dpi. Despite this, the image quality looks the same. Some possible artifacts but nothing that screams fake.
Either way, I think the photo was taken at the Stone Temple Nightclub in Vancouver. Decor is similar and the sign behind 'Lala' is enough to give it away.
I dont really understand whats going on here. The question is motive. Why, why, why....why, why. Why.
